Details: SHARKS TO SWIM AT THE COLUMBUS SPORT SHOW The only traveling shark encounter in the U.S. will “swim” into the Columbus Sports, Vacation and Boat Show at the Ohio Expo Center, February 7-10. The ominous music of “jaws” will be heard, smoke will begin billowing, hydraulic doors will rise that cover giant windows into the aquarium, and the circling sharks circling in 5,000 gallons of water will be looking out at the audience. That’s the start of the unique “Shark Encounter” that has fascinated thousands around the country, albeit primarily in the warmer temperatures of the south. Still, the giant aquarium will make a rare mid-winter appearance for 4 days in Columbus. As diver Philip Peters prepares to enter the aquarium, he provides educational and entertaining information about sharks. Then after watching the sharks for aggressive behavior, Peters enters the tank for face-to-face contact with the animals that elicit more fear and fascination than any other creatures of the sea. This year’s Sports Show will feature travel exhibits, boats, RV’s, camping and fishing displays. A schedule of fishing seminars will featuring bass tournament champion Joe Thomas (appearing Feb. 9 only) along with angling veterans Travis Hartman, Elmer Heyob, Matt Davis, Dan Geis and Larry Rhoads. A special Kids Fishing Clinic is slated for Saturday at 1:00 PM. Also set for the kids, the Capt’n Willie “The Great Lakes Pirate” Show will be presented daily. His “edutainment” style has been carefully sculpted to capture the attention and imagination of children, particularly ages three to ten. Show hours will be: Thursday and Friday (Feb. 7-8) - 2 pm to 8 pm; Saturday (Feb. 9) - 10 am to 8 pm; Sunday (Feb. 10) – 10 am to 6 pm. Admission: Adults $8, children 12 & under free.
