the ubiquitous wooly bugger is to fly fishing what the .22 rimfire is to rifle marksmanship. everybody scoffs at it, but we all hav a fly box full of them and use them often when a) we think no one will see us and b) everybody else is around us is using them. why? bcuz they're easy, cheap, fun, and work on just about everything.

I'm new to the fly fishing scene. My son got me involved last fall, so I'm looking forward to this season. The woolly bugger is scheduled to get wet often this year. It's my son's favorite fly.

***, I'm not proud. If it bags the wiley trout. I have resorted to maggots attached to a fly to bag brookies. Enjoy the outdoors and you are close to God's heart

Sometimes I wonder if other fly fishermen would cringe at how often a simple olive green wolly bugger gets thrown on the end of my line because when all else fails it seems to work.
