For flatheads I use small crappie or bluegill or the bait shop sells big goldfish which seem to work really well. For channels just plain old night crawlers work great.

i use liver from the grocery store and a five ott hook and big shinners from creeks caught on beemoths usauly under culverts gills are good except in indiana it is illegal to use panfish as bait . small rivers and big are a great way to catch big cats in log jams or were the cuurent isn't ripping through the water

i wish i had logjams to fish, our river doesnt seem to ever build any up. instead i have to fish deep holes on outside river bends, 30 to 50 feet

I use chicken hearts and livers, that my wife saves up for me over the winter, as well as sonnies stink bait , and good ol' packaged chicken blood dough balls. None have failed me yet.

We started using cheap Bar S or store brand hot dogs last summer and caught some nice Channel Cat.

My personal favorite channel bait is any small fish i can catch on the spot, even bigger rough fish I will chop up and use. As for flatheads I prefer live bluegills.
