Check to see if there is a grease fitting where the cable attaches to the motor. If there is use a grease gun to slowly pump grease into it while runs the steering through its travel.

S&M said it all. That is about all you can do. There is sometimes a grease fitting down a little farther for the pivot shaft of the motor. Some of the steering cables can be removed and cleaned out with solvent but if you don't know what you are doing it is better to have a trained technician do it for you.

i helped the boat mechanic at our local shop redue my outdrive and a fella brought a boat in that had stiff steering also. ended up being a steering wheel control that you could latch maually and it would hold the wheel in that position. just something to look for

i just bought my first boat this week. nothing fancy. 89 bass tracker. the steering is really stiff. hard to turn the wheel. is there a steering control arm or anything to that nature that i can replace to make it steer smoother?
