Chatfield Lake is a great lake for fishing and boating. The fishing is usually best early and then late in the day, around sunrise and sunset. During the summer, there is ample pleasure boat traffic, due to it's proximity to Denver. Which is another reason I like to fish early and then late in the day. I surrender the lake to the skiers and PWCs the rest of the time. There are plenty of Rangers at the lake. The speed limits and boating laws are strictly enforced.
During the Spring and Fall the pleasure boating drops off and the fishing improves. During the winter ice fishing is popular. Be careful when on the ice, make sure to wear a PFD!
Chatfield has a marina at the South Boat Ramp. A restraunt, food, ice, fuel, etc. is available. The south boat ramp has two lanes; and the north Ramp has eight total lanes in 2 locations.
