FIVEMILE
Five Mile Lake is in Federal Way, reached just off Military Road about 2 miles north of where it joins Enchanted Parkway. Access is gained through a large state park, appropriately enough called Five Mile Lake State Park. The park has a large dock with a swimming area, and a playground as well as picnic tables, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and other sports areas. There is no boat launch, however. Previously there was a small private area outside the park where boats could be dragged down a steep hill, but this is fenced off now. Small craft can be carried from a large parking lot inside the park, but it's about 300 yards across a grass field to the water.
Like many lakes in the region, this is a small natural lake, about 15 acres. The water is stained, and due to this I believe that the lake has a peat bottom. The park covers an extensive portion of the shoreline, you can fish from the dock or from several spots on shore. Most of the rest of the shoreline is almost totally developed, except for a shallow marshy area immediately north of the beach at the public park. This area can be cast into while standing on shore, and is covered with lily pads and wild lotus. There are other beds of lilly pads around the lake shore. Straight out from the dock is a hole that reaches down to about 25 feet.
