Everyone loves a freebie. Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things to do, but add free samples to the mix and now you’re talking! I don’t know why, but cheese skewered on a toothpick just tastes better. I know I’m not alone in my love of free samples or try-before-you-buy promotions, so I want to make sure you know about the fishing-related “samples” available over the next couple of days. If you want to put a little more fa-la-la in your holiday and mistletoe isn’t doing the trick, I suggest you try trout? With that in mind I ask you to consider your holiday to-do list. If you’re anything like me, you have a list of things to do and gifts to buy that could turn a regularly nice person into a Scrooge. I’m always trying to find the right gift for the people on my list, but rarely do I run across the perfect (and affordable) item – the thing they really want. Sure my dad smiles from ear to ear when he unwraps yet another box of Gillette after-shave and new package of handkerchiefs, my husband really could use a couple new shirts and my work friends are always happy to see gift cards to the movie theater, but somehow I don’t think these things qualify for perfection. Wouldn’t it be nice to give your loved-ones and friends something that they really wanted this year…something that would make them happier and more successful? I know you want to hear those magical words, “that is just what I wanted.” Well, here it is people – for just $26 you can give those special people on you list a Utah fishing license. It is good all year, lasts longer than a bottle of aftershave is way less expensive that taking them to a movie. AND you don’t have to run all over town to get your shopping done either.

I had an awesome time fishing at Flaming Gorge yesterday (July 31). It was my first time fishing the Gorge AND my first time going after kokanee salmon. All my thanks to Russ Muir from Roosevelt, Utah, and his deck hand Brooks for taking care of me.
