Hello everyone, just joined the group. I would like to know if anyone in the upstate SC knows any places to access the Broad River. I am earger to catch some small mouth bass and I hear this river is a great small mouth fishery.

This summer for our family vacation part of hte family wants to go to North Carolina and part of the family wants to go fishing. Can anyone suggest a good place to stay on the water and do some fresh water fishing in NC?

I'm putting my first fish on the wall after my trip to Dothan, Alabama this weekend. I've passed up on mounting a lot of 8-10 pounders. Thank god I waited for this beast. 13 1/4 pounds. Watermelon/red fluke

Dear Friends, Please take the time to copy and paste the link below. It is a short video that is a great reminder of how important wearing your PFD and killswitch is. This is a real film of a a 70 mph bass boat crash. http://www.boattest.com/Resources/view_news.aspx?NewsID=3506 Mike

Had I mentioned rain? Silly me........the weather changed enough to turn a steamer into nothing more than an oven. We're still getting some afternoon showers, but for the most part, it's hot from about 10am until 6:30 pm. With that said, the BEST fishing has been in the hours from first light until it's too hot and again from 6:30 or so until dark. There are to many drinking boaters for me to fell very comfortable with fishing at night. Not to mention biting insects. Bass have been a typical summer pattern. Cruising weeds in the 1 to 4 foot depths in the morning and either buried deep in the thickest vegetation, tight to wood or on the main river ledges during the heat of the day. Seems like as long as you have four or five good areas to check, one will produce, even when the others don't show a single sign of life. Average size has been 2 or 3 pounds with heavier ones mixed in. Lipless cranks, BIG soft plastics and the Florida standard of spinnerbaits in white or fire tiger are best. Many of the guys I've been talking to have stopped wasting their money on shiners and are enjoying the decent artificial bite. If you can locate a good shady area on any of the lakes or rivers during the heat of the day, you can potentially "load the boat". Tight lines......... Mike

Well, the rain is still keeping the bass in full gear. I found a wolf pack of 2 to 5 pound fish staged at the base of a storm drain pipe. I caught 5 and missed a sixth one in 7 casts. The rest of the story is that I had to make a hundred or two "practice" casts until I found them. All of the bites came on watermelon creature baits from Bitter's Bait and Tackle. If anyone's interested, Bitter's pours their own baits and not only are they really good, they're very reasonably priced. Check them out on the web. (I'm lucky enough to visit them while pre-fire planning or whatever I have to call it when I need baits. The weather here has been severe at times lately and I just want to remind everyone to think twice before staying out when you see lightning or start hearing thunder and as several local boaters have recently learned, wear you PFD, at least when you're moving and at the very least, when the water gets rough. I'd hate to meet any of you by giving you a first hand demo of what a paramedic does. P.S. If anyone decides to come to my area to fish, let me know a bit in advance and I'll be glad to get you all of the local info you need. Maybe we could even get my boat wet and stretch some lines together. Until then, tight lines......... Mike
