This past Tuesday 9/1, Several of the guides and patrons of Rocky Mountain Anglers were lucky enough to accompany Paul Kuehnel on what could be be called a religious pilgrimage for those who consider trout sacred. Paul is the President of the Boulder Fish & Game Club and probably the strongest hiker I've had the privilege to share the trail with. Starting at 11,600 ft and the former town of Rollins we descended to King Lake, one of several lakes we would visit that day and deposit in to more than 12,000 Native Greenback Cutthroat Trout. After much hard work, The greenback gods gave back with solid fishing at our final lake, Skyscraper Lake. Our packs emptied of their precious cargo and moral on high from sweet surface strikes we all made the rest of the trip back with a subtle smile on our oxygen deprived faces. For those who appreciate all things that are sacred to fishermen, this is a journey rich in tradition and felt like a religious ceremony. If you feel you have the physical skill, you can get involved by contacting the shop.

If ya get a cance you should throw a red and white streamer with your fly rod and see if you can hook up with a trophy northern. Otherwise a mouse pattern is always good if you have the right type of vegitation. Also a cone head wollybugger is a must have as well as a good leach pattern. A popper is also a good pattern in MN but I have to admit I've never used them.

Hi TJ, I pulled that Small Mouth out of a lake in Northern, WI but I have heard there is some decent bass up in Brainer Lake. When I moved to Boulder a little over a year ago I began fly fishing. It is definitely a harder sport but really rewarding. I’m going to MN in a couple of days. I might bring my fly rod and see what I can catch. Chad

Hey TJ welcome aboard! I will have to check out your website next. Fishing this year has been nothing short of outstanding. Every time I have been out has been better than the last few..... right now the pan fish are starting to do there pre span dance :) The Walleye are for the most part back in the Lake but still can be found. the white bass if you are on the river, well lets just say... if you think your going to catch anything else "GOOD LUCK" as soon as your bait hits the water they attack it. well hope you have a great day and remember the men and women that gave us this freedom!

Hey Dick, I hear ya.. *** Computers. I was talking about the pic next to your name, a very nice bass, that brought me to your profile.. Not exact a Colorado spinner like "Jerry's Flies" but rather and inline spinner with a Colorado blade. The increased rotation angle of the Colorado blade provides for a quick engage time and better control than some of it's counterparts. The CP Swing... Is that also called the Swiss Swing? I have a friend who raves about the Swiss Swing. I collect antique tackle and happened across some old ones from the sixties. (They came a part of a group of lures I bought at a swap) I have a bunch of cool lures that I will have to post pics of. I always like to buy or trading for more. Cheers~ T.J.

TJ This board leaves me totally confused. I got an e mail notification that you had added me to your buddies list so i searched till i found you. Actually you added that pretty smallmouth not me! I have not used an inline for bass since the days of the CP swing. (60's?) 99% of my 3000+ smallmouth over 4 lb have been caught on hair jigs, brewer grubs or tubes. If color is important i have little evidence of it with the baits i use. Colorado spinner eh? I used to sneak a small gold onto my fly outfit when fishing a fly only river stretch in NJ. Shame on me but *** i was 15 and i liked to EAT fish. The Colorado was a natural for the fly rod being only a blade swivels and a small treble. Best. dick

TJ Hooker....LOVE IT!

I think Shatner would say, "I can catch bigger trout than that in my sleep, If I slept" Thanks for the props, how's your fishing season going?

Congrats on your big day! That's a nice trout. Maybe we should start calling you TJ Hooker. "Steams the final frontier" You do get the TJ Hooker thing right? Anyway, Congrats again.

Here in Colorado, I've been fishing Boulder Creek with a 7'6" 4x fly rod. The trout are very numerous! I observed an interesting behavior, I caught nothing but browns for several days in a row on a Black Pheasant tale w/brown hackle. I felt I was casting to all of the structures with fairness. I certainly wasn't trying to avoid rainbows. None the less, It appears that the Browns were choosing a different food source than the rainbows were willing to strike at.

How's fishing? Saw your new pics. Looks good. I got my first smallie of the year on my fly-rod this past week-end. 15 1/4", nice fish. Took a picture but then I got my camera wet and lost the shot. Not to worry, camera dried out. Tight lines to ya. Terry

Nice Pike Mr Graves :-) I guide in Rocky Mountain Natl Park. It's beautiful and the dry fly fishing for trout makes it a one of kind. I am very lucky! I guide for a shop called Rocky Mountain Anglers and I make tackle also. Not trying to be a sales person but here is some links: http://www.rockymtanglers.com http://stoneyriveroutfitters.com
