A friend and I were discussing the 1950's, And I informed him of a community that still lives like the 1950's. Sandlando Springs Florida, is a small community, That has not had a crime in 25 years, the nieghbors check on each other daily, the sheriff dept. either calls or stops by to check on the seniors and disabled, Nieghbors still stand over the back fence and talk,You can goto sleep at night with your windows open and not fear someone will climb in and rob you, Nieghbors still get together on weekend cook outs, They still help each other when theres been a sickness or death in a family. There are free vestables, and concerts in the park every weekend,Neighbors help each other with yard work and home repair,Neighbors get together evenings for an evening walk through the village. Theres several fishing lakes, and pic nic areas, we still have a movie theater,Its a great place to raise a family. You can call the sheriff, and let them know you are going to be out of town, and they come by 6 times aday and night, walk around your home, then enter with the key you give them, walk through your home, turn on the out side lights at night and off at day light, turn on 1 or 2 inside lights at dark and off at day light.when you return home you just call and say we are home. The fire cheif also patrols by your home while you are away, to make sure everything is ok.The local pharmacy and grocery store still delivers, your phone in order. We've had the same doctor for twenty years, when you call him, you get him , not a recording telling you to punch a bunch of numbers then leave your name and number. If you need to see him , you just walk in, no worrying about getting an appointment,we've had the same eye doctor twenty years, the same dentist. Not like the big cities where you constantatly have a different doctor in the office every 3 months.Or have to see some physian's assistant. When you see the doctor, if you ca't pay him right then, no worry, just invite him to dinner ,or bring him a cuple of home made pies.Yeah just like fifty years ago.We have a 2 truck fire station, mostly volenteers, But when you need them they are there within 5 minutes. When there is a storm and power is out, the sheriff deptartment knocks on your door to make sure you are alright.and if you need them to pick up anything for you,Medications, food water etc.Like I said this is a community that never really left the spirit or way of life of the 1950's.

The cumberlin runs all the way to the mississippi river,The harpeth runs from the Tennessee river to the cumberlin river, The Tennessee river is another great fishing experiance. All three rivers are full of giant river cats, Yellow and Blue and spotted, and Black, Huge bass, Huge River Trout,Hugh river eels,Huge Garr fish,Crapy that weigh upto 6or 7 pounds,Etc.So the next time you want to try someplace new to fish, visit Tennessee.
-
The thing that really thrilled me about the cumberlin and Harpeth rivers was that there is no weight or length, limits and no keep limits.Keep what you catch.Just besure you bring along plenty of big ice chests in your boat. Empty except ice, not full of beer. They do patrol those rivers looking for drunk boat operaters. It's a $ 275.00 fine, Plus they'll make you dump your fish. And take you into jail For 48 hours. They don't play when it comes to drunk boating.

If you really want a great fishing experiance,Spend a week fishing the cumberlin and Harpeth Rivers In the Nashville, Franklin Thompson Station Tennessee areas.Ther are Blue , and Yellow Cats, That start at 5 pounds and have been caught all the way upto 265 Pounds 6 foot 10 inchs in length. The largest ever brought out of the cumberlin was in May 1985, by an 11 year old girl and her Dad, that weighed 312 pounds, and is mounted and hanging on the wall of the Nashville Mueseum on 2nd avenue in down town Nashville, with their pitchures with the fish just after being caught, Her Bait- Night Crawler, Yep.There are huge bass, Huge River trout,Huge crapy,Etc.in both rivers , along with the huge cats. You can rent a boat with an outboard, life jackets, two white life savers with 16 foot throw ropes ,A fish finder, Three full fuel tanks, and a packed box lunch for everyone on board, for from $ 50.00 - $ 85.00 per day according to boat size and outboard motor size. The rental day starts a dawn through dusk. There are Bait and tackle shops all up and down both rivers, with spots to pitch a tent for $ 15.00 per night, with small grill on a stand at each site. And porto Johns. There are places up and down both rivers to dock, and find a place to have breakfast or supper,If you don't want to cook up some of your catch. Some of these docking places have pumps to refill your fuel tanks. I promis you will not be disappointed with the cumberlin and harpeth rivers.
