I wish I had some advice for ya... I don't have a boat and can only do pier fishing so with the boat traffic going in and out of the res, it's hard to get a bite. I can give you a warning about the gators, though... there are quite a few alligators in the res and every time I've been to the GCR one is always hanging around, even getting about 10 feet away. You leave them alone, they'll leave you alone but do not allow your son to get in the water - just to be on the safe side! Good luck! :) Note: I have caught a couple of pinfish in my cast net at Wappoo Cut and also at Remley's in Mt. Pleasant. Also at Wappoo Cut I got an oyster toadfish - tossed all of them back but it was fun for my 3 yr old son to know that we had caught some fish! :)

I have a six year old who has recently been introduced to fishing and loves it. I was considering going to GCR to try it based on your discription. Any pointers for tackle? All he wants to do is pull in fish. Although, I would like it to be different from Bluegill.
