Bassmaster-ME is proud to be a part of the Anglers’ Legacy.
Who got me involved in fishing:
A friend of mine back in High School got me involved with bass fishing out of his 12' alum v-hull with a 5hp on it. Before that my father took the family on brook fishing for native Maine trout.
Favorite Fishing Story:
It has to be passing on all my knowledge of bass fishing to our son Brian. We started him out when he was 1, taking him in the boat and by the time he was 2 he was reeling in his own fish, now a teenager he runs the boat, reads the electronics and probably knows more than I knew when I started.
It has been great watching my son go from club bass tournaments to Club Angler of the Year, Maine State Junior Bassmaster Champion, to Eastern Divisional Champion and competing in Kansas at the Junior Bassmaster World Champion. It was a great experience for him as well as for his family.
Best Fishing Joke:
While ice fishing once, we pulled the old ice skimmer on the end of the line trick to one of our buddies. He's gullible to begin with but after watching him pulling that dead weight in and convincing him he had a new state record trout on the end was enough to give us all stomach cramps from laughing so hard. If you can't relate to that or you didn't get a laugh you should have been there.
May 2nd we had a club bass tourney on Panther Pond in Casco, water was 52-55 and some fish had moved in to the shallows. 3 days before the tourney I could have stung several fish between 4-6 lbs on spinnerbaits and jigs. I did catch 7 between 3-5 1/2 lbs but tourney day only managed 11 1/2 lbs for 4 fish with a kicker 4.8. My son was with me and caught 2 4 1/2 lb LM. Tough day for all. Most of the fish came on jigs, suspending jerkbaits and spinnerbaits in 1-12' of water around rocks, stumps and sand flats. All in all a good day size wise, plus I got to fish with my son.
It looks like the smallies may start to spawn by the 15th and some of the largemouth's shouldn't be far behind in the smaller ponds and lakes.
Lwalshjr, were are you planning on fishing when you come up?
