Who got me involved in fishing:
Oddly enough, my kids got me into fishing. Growing up my dad always fished, but I never went with him. I have no idea why just never went. I spent a majority of my life swimming in lakes and rivers and the ocean but never once grabbed a fishing pole. On my 33rd birthday my two step daughters asked me why we never went fishing. I told them calmly we will go the next weekend. I bought them poles and some worms and we went fishing, yet I still didn't have my own pole. I enjoyed just watching them catch perch out of the local lake. The next spring i bought my first fishing license and a shakespeere firebird combo from wal mart 2 months before my 34th birthday.
Favorite Fishing Story:
This a follow up of who got me into fishing. My favorite fishing memory was of the first time I actually went fishing. My oldest daughter and I drove to the lake and had been casting of the bank for about 10 minutes in the hottest part of the day ( mid april in texas about 2pm) I felt a very faint tug on my line and assumed i had gotten my line hung up again and began reeling it in. There was no fight or anything and as I got the end of my line about 2 ft from the shore I noticed there was a good sized fish on the end! I had no idea what kind of fish it was, how to get it off my hook, or even what i was going to do with it wonce i got it in my hand. I finally grabbed it by the lip like I had seen my dad do countless times and worked the hook out of its mouth, which took longer than it did to reel the fish in, and began trying to figure out what i was going to do with this fish. The fish felt like it weighed about 7 or 8 pounds but it was just a guess response to my daughter's question on how much it weighed. We went home directly as I had no stringer or anything to keep it in and I had to show someone that I actually caught a fish. As we pull into the driveway my wife comes out and sees me unwrap this fish that i had rolled up in an old newspaper and tells me it was a striper. 5 months later i have caught nothing else and am hoping this website will help teach me how to go about catching more fish.
