The Western Outdoor News Trout Derby
Slated for April 18th, 2009, the Southern California Trout Opener will feature hundreds of tagged fish planted in Irvine lake prior to the contest.. Participants who catch a tagged fish will be eligible for various sponsor generated prizes ranging from rods, reels, tackle boxes, and much more. This is the perfect opportunity to get your family and friends out of the house and tune up your angling skills and tackle prior to heading up the trout opener in the Sierras.
This special event and tournament has been a sell- out where ever it’s gone get your tickets early.
Anyone without a Western Outdoor News tournament ticket will not be allowed to enter the park for the event. In other words there will be no general admission traffic allowed to fish that day.
We are taking boat, pontoon and camp reservations in advance. Only those people who have proof of purchase into the tournament will be allowed to make reservations. All reservations must be paid for in advance with a credit card no exceptions.
For such a large event, we will have plenty of security and everything will be planned and thought out carefully. We will be providing transportation to areas on the lake that are usually inaccessible for example, we will be running a West Shore shuttle and we will be opening up the very Eastern parts of the Santiago Flats to vehicles and possibly camping.
You may download the tournament application on line at www.wonews.com or you can pick up the application at the Irvine Lake tackle shop.
If you have any further questions you can email us at:

See you at the scales.
