O'FISH'L REPORT:
I had a great Day on the water Saturday April 2, 2011. at Lake Lanier, during the 1st inaugural Phil Niekro Fins & Skins Celebrity Pro-Am at Lake Lanier Islands Resort on behalf of my non profit organization F.I.S.H, Inc. to help raise money for Operation One Voice.
The list of celebrities was impressive, and rife with Hall of Fame athletes. Niekro pitched for more than two decades, including 20 years with the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox, who retired after the 2010 season, was on hand. Others included Atlanta Falcons quarterback Steve Bartkowski and kicker Morten Anderson, who also played for New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Pirate Bill Mazeroski, New York Mets hurler Ron Reed, NFL Hall of Fame coach Dan Reeves and Milwaukee Brewers infielder and Hall of Famer Robin Yount, Chicago Bears kicker Kevin Butler and former Atlanta slugger Ryan Klesko.
Other celebrities included comedian Michael Finney, longtime tournament angler and TV show host Orlando Wilson, noted television and radio show host O’Neill Williams and Atlanta weatherman Glenn Burns. The PAA pros who volunteered their day, some of whom had 6-plus hour drives to the next tour stop, included Brandon Card, Steve Kennedy, Chad Morgenthaler, Shaw Grigsby, Guy Eaker, Woo Daves, Chris Daves, Dave Mansue, Harold Allen, Joey Nania, Gary Yamamoto, John Crews, Patrick Pierce, Mike DelVisco and Duke Jenkel.
Duke Jenkel, Charles Claybaker and I had our 5 bass limit with a total of 8lbs for the wegh-in at the Bass Pro Shop but it wasn’t enough to win. Look out for me next year yall!
