My Anglers’ Legacy

James P Salters is proud to be a part of the Anglers’ Legacy.
Who got me involved in fishing:
My Father was a man that loved fishing and never was very good at it. Almost every member in the family out fished him including his five year old granddaughter. But he always knew the importance fishing played in the well being of all human beings, (Time Well Spent with Nature).Favorite Fishing Story:
When my daughter was only five she was fishing with my father. I was to meet them at a friends pond when I got off from work. When I arrived at the 20+ acre farm pond, I found my Dad had tied a purple worm on his rod. He had about 5 ft of line out and was flailing all heck out of the water around any cover that he could reach from the bank. When I told him how senseless his activity was, my daughter came walking up behind me holding a 5LB Large Mouth and said, "That's how I caught this one". Seems she grew tired of fishing and started slapping the water with the worm in order to make my Dad take her home. I have never tried the technique but my now 30+ year old daughter swears it works.Best Fishing Joke:
While at fishing Santee Cooper, I noticed a squirrel sitting on a fallen log eating an acorn, when a large mouth flew out of the water and grabbed the squirrel. I hardly believed what I had seen. But what happened next really shocked me. The bass picked up a floating acorn and gently came over to the log, placed the acorn in a small depression and reset the trap.

I love your stories...I think I'm going to try the slap and flail method in hopes of improving my odds.
