Who got me involved in fishing:
I got involved in fishing after a cross country bicycle ride during which I re-tooled the way I did therapy. I come on the Salmon Fly Hatch on the Big Hole and after riding along side the river for about 45 miles and watching the fly fishers in their drift boats and on shore - I was hooked. Upon returning from the 4000 mile ride, I took a "Let's Go Fishing" class and started doing therapeutic fishng groups with my consumers who all has severe and persistent mental illness (most with "un-treatable" schizophrenia). I did this continuously for 5 years then moved to another mental health center and did 7 more years of groups.
Favorite Fishing Story:
My first trip to fish the Lochsa in Idaho was a week at the Lochsa Lodge and wonderful fishing with enough Rainbows. I had wanted to go to this river since the bicycle ride and finally made it back 10 years later. I found the spot had originally set this river in my mind, and feeling like something pretty great was going to happen, I got my first Cutthroat, 18 inches and just lovely. ... Or maybe it was fishing with the Buffalo in Nez Perce Creek in Yellowstone.. or fooling some tourists from Japan that I was official photo-op fly fisher in Yellowstone Park, hired by the parks service to assure wonderful picturesque vacation photo's for tourists!
Best Fishing Joke:
Each time I can't catch a fish that shows itself to me and then just ignores everything I throw at it (Humiliation Hole, Davidson River, Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina) - The jokes on me!
