Gender: Male Age: 57 Your Location: Pearl City, Oahu on the shores of Pearl Harbor. About You: Fish about once a week if possible....only 10 minutes away in Pearl Harbor. It's like fishing in your backyard. Favorite Activities: Fishing! Must Tag and release as much as possibe to save for the future. Favorite Species of Fish: Jacks! In Hawai'i we call jacks under 10 lbs Papio and over 10 lbs Ulua. The goal of every ulua fisherman is the elusive 100 lb plus ulua! Fishing is done from shore and no boats! They swim very near to shore and present a challenge for spinning tackle.
Largest Ulua on record caught in Hawai'i is 191 lbs!Favorite Tackle: Spinning tackle to catch a 100 lb ulua from shore. Most anglers use conventional reels and I don't believe this has been done in hawai'i yet. I use a Daiwa 5500 spinning reel loaded with about 500 yards of 30 lb test spider wire.
