The river fishes and floats more like a Rocky Mountain stream than most of its Ozark counterparts, and is best experienced when floated because long stretches of the river are not wadable or accessible from the bank. The river has a reputation for being challenging due to an abundance of technical water, but this is all relative. For an Ozark river, this is true. But if you are accustomed to technical water, the NFOW can be extremely productive. The region is very rural, but there are a few lodges, campgrounds, outfitters, and restaurants in the area.
