Location: CameronWI Profile Manager: Moose Coordinates: 45.3775, -91.7033 Public/Private: Public Description: The largest of the Chetek chain at 1619 acres with a maximum depth of about 16 feet. Prairie is mainly a drainage lake with an inlet on the North end from Rice Creek along with natural springs exiting into the lake and an outlet at the dam on Chetek. The lake bottom is eighty percent sand and gravel with the remainder consisting of silt. Vegetation varies between several varieties of pondweed and coontail. Lily pads are very common.
Prairie give anglers many opportunities to catch a wide variety of fish including: Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Northern Pike, Perch, Pumpkinseed, Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Bowfin, Bullhead, Redhorse and Sucker.
There is lake access from the Wolfs Den on the Northeast end for a fee, Barron County Memorial Park and Frankenberg Slough both on the Northwest end, Lakeview Park in North Central across from the Horseshoe, and the Southeast end off of County Road M. Many of the resorts have private boat landings and may charge for launching and removal of your boat.
