I have done my share but can never get enough of shore fishing small rivers.
When the fish are hard to reach I use (castable mini planer boards with directional control) called BulletBobbers.
They flip direction with the flick of the wrist, giving me on-demand direction control.
Here is a link to the BulletBobber website www.bulletbobber.com
If I am using bait or soft body lures I usually slip-rig them so I can do a little vertical jiggling in the slack waters.
Slip-rigging also allows me to set a bait on the bottom in the middle of eddies.

Every once in a great while an invention comes along that makes fishing more fun and effective and BulletBobbers hit a home run.
