Who got me involved in fishing:
My Dad started my brother and I fishing in the parks and lake front of Chicago. The family spent many good times picnicing and fishing. My grandfather would tell me stores about my Dad catching enough fish to feed the entire city block, for a week during the Great Depression. Mostly carp.
Favorite Fishing Story:
My Dad and I (I was maybe 7 years old) where fishing a lake a little north of Milwakee Wisconsin. It was a cold blustery day and the resort owner didn't want us to go out, but gave in. and we promised to go no futher than a rockpile about half block away from shore, these were old wooden rowboats.
Now my dad owned a steel rod and a Ocean City bait casting reel. He anchords off this rockbed and puts on a huge gob of nightclawlers. As we were rigging the bamboo pole for me , he got a bite. He grabs the rod and sets the hook and all you heard was the sound of the antireverse screaming. He had 50 pound old black line on that reel. He fought that fish for maybe 5 minutes when finnaly it came up. i saw what was one of the largest fish I have ever seen. A sturgon. Well when that fish seen the boat it took off, I can still see my dad hanging on to that rod for dear life as his line from his reel disapeared.
When he saw how little line he had left he began trying to pull the anchore up. He gets it up and I still can hear his words today (ROW, SON ROW!) Needless to say that fish took all his line and snapped it at the reel. Ive caught many a large fish but I will always remember. Row , Son Row.
Best Fishing Joke:
What do you get when you cross a coho,a walleye, and a musky? A Kowallsky
I fish St Clair abit, but not often enough. A friend of mine targets muskie, but we have't made it out together yet. That's a fish on my wish list.
