Age: 39 Your Location: Boulder, Colorado About You: I am a fishing guide in Colorado and a tackle crafter. I guide for a shop in boulder called Rocky Mountain Anglers. I make a new version of an old concept called a Colorado Spinner that you can build to your specs on my website
www.stoneyriveroutfitters.com. I learned to fish on the banks of the Kishwaukee near my childhood home in Cherry Valley Il.Favorite Activities: I have been fishing over 100 days per year since 1992 and consider it a lifestyle more than an activity of a sport. I am trying to master many fishing techniques but anything that involves a surface strike disserves a special reverence. Favorite Species of Fish: Any fish of trophy size!! (But the small one will do just fine, too) Favorite Tackle: The tackle that I make. I have not fished other lures in a long time but I still buy my flies from the shop. Number of Anglers Invited: 5

My Anglers’ Legacy
-
T.J. is proud to be a part of the Anglers’ Legacy.
Who got me involved in fishing:
My father to great lengths to ensure I discover the outdoors and all that comes with it. This certainly included fishing but I also think there is a dominate fishing gene in many members of my family.Best Fishing Joke:
The only evidence I have seen yet that contradicts Catch and Release practices was the giant trout my friend claimed to have caught recently. By his estimation a state record, but just when he was going to pull the fish in the boat, the fish promised him 3 wishes if he'd let him go. He did so and never saw that fish again, but he wishes

This past Tuesday 9/1, Several of the guides and patrons of Rocky Mountain Anglers were lucky enough to accompany Paul Kuehnel on what could be be called a religious pilgrimage for those who consider trout sacred. Paul is the President of the Boulder Fish & Game Club and probably the strongest hiker I've had the privilege to share the trail with. Starting at 11,600 ft and the former town of Rollins we descended to King Lake, one of several lakes we would visit that day and deposit in to more than 12,000 Native Greenback Cutthroat Trout. After much hard work, The greenback gods gave back with solid fishing at our final lake, Skyscraper Lake. Our packs emptied of their precious cargo and moral on high from sweet surface strikes we all made the rest of the trip back with a subtle smile on our oxygen deprived faces. For those who appreciate all things that are sacred to fishermen, this is a journey rich in tradition and felt like a religious ceremony. If you feel you have the physical skill, you can get involved by contacting the shop.

If ya get a cance you should throw a red and white streamer with your fly rod and see if you can hook up with a trophy northern. Otherwise a mouse pattern is always good if you have the right type of vegitation. Also a cone head wollybugger is a must have as well as a good leach pattern. A popper is also a good pattern in MN but I have to admit I've never used them.

Hi TJ,
I pulled that Small Mouth out of a lake in Northern, WI but I have heard there is some decent bass up in Brainer Lake. When I moved to Boulder a little over a year ago I began fly fishing. It is definitely a harder sport but really rewarding.
I’m going to MN in a couple of days. I might bring my fly rod and see what I can catch.
