My buddy is teaching me to fly fish. He suggested holding a book under my arm to keep me from moving too much. Anyone heard of this before? Is this legit? Other tips?

Sounds like it might work. I have a tendency to get to "wristy." When I first started, I took a broken rod half and tied on several feet of yarn.  Will do the same for my daughter when she wants to learn.

Andy, have you tried wearing a wrist brace for bowlers?  That is what grandpa did, he said it kept the wrist stiff enough to retain control, and it helped keep the wrist from getting sore during a long day on the water.    The half blank and yarn sounds like a good learning tool, wink gota try that one...  

My trouble is to much arm and muscle going into the back swing, yep, I snap dry fly's right off the hook with a "poop"....oooops ....the book might work for me..LOL
