  • State Programs

    • DNR Camps and Workshops

      The Iowa DNR offers several camps and workshops for all ages and experience levels to learn more about outdoor skills including fishing, boating, kayaking, shooting, orienteering, hunting and much more.

    • Fish Iowa! A Teaching Module

      A comprehensive module to teach basic spincasting, Fish Iowa! incorporates physical education, health, biology, geography, and family and consumer sciences into a program that focuses on fishing. It is designed for use in formal settings with middle school through senior high students, but easily adapts to nonformal programs such as camps, scout outings, etc. Fish Iowa! works with students with all levels of abilities.Materials are available to Iowa educators and youth leaders only through training sessions (one-on one) and workshops.

    • Fish Iowa! An Introduction to Fly-fishing

      Designed to introduce the angler to the basics of fly-fishing; basic equipment, assembly, and casting techniques are presented.

    • Fish Iowa! An Introduction to Ice Fishing

      Designed to introduce the angler to the winter sport of ice fishing; preparation, ice safety, equipment, and angling strategies for an ice fishing trip to a frozen pond or lake are discussed.

    • Fish Iowa! Games Casting Competition

      Fish Iowa! Games is a competition where students cast from three distances using the flipping, pitching, and overhand techniques. It was developed by the Iowa Sports Foundation, in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, in 2006. Since then, over 49,000 K-12 students throughout the state have participated.

    • Project WILD Aquatic

      Learning about wildlife in the environment is just part of the goals of this program. It allows student experiences to be the source of the teaching. The activity guide is full of activities that may be immediately added to any K-12 curriculum. More than 12,000 Iowa educators have participated in workshops and use the materials with more than 500,000 Iowa youth.

    • Becoming an Outdoors-Woman

      Offers outdoor skills workshops to women throughout North America. Skills for hunting and shooting, fishing, and non-harvest sports likecanoeing and camping are taught.

    • Conclave

      This traveling rod-building seminar includes a banquet and a souvenir program.

    • Educational Recreational Adventures

      Educational Recreational Adventures teaches environmental education, science, and outdoor skills (fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, backpacking, aquatic education,wildlife studies,...) to people of all ages.

    • Hooked On Fishing–Not On Drugs®

      The flagship youth education program of the Future Fisherman Foundation. HOFNOD uses angling skill development as a gateway to teach youth about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and how to deal with the challenges facing them in their young lives. The HOFNOD network includes trained aquatic education professionals in over 30 states with literally thousands of programs nationwide.     • Physical Education Program

      A curriculum and equipment package designed to teach fly-fishing in Physical Education. We assist teachers in the completion of Federal Fishing Grant Applications and can equip your whole program.

    • Student Angler Federation In-School program

      This free in-school program by The Bass Federation provides an educational look at today’s world of fishing. See how items like math, science and language arts are used by professional anglers’ everyday! Talk to a teacher, advisor or principle and have them apply for this TBF program for your school.

    • Trout Unlimited Flyfishing School

      The longest-running, most comprehensive, fly fishing school in the United States. Run by all-volunteer staff of certified and master instructors, the Michigan Council of Trout Unlimited Fly-fishing School takes place over 3 days near Traverse City, Michigan, and includes casting, landing fish, knots, bugs, fly-tying, reading the water, etiquette and more. All levels covered (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Age 12 and up.
