Boat or shoreline anglers can fish for prizes in this catch-and-release event. Children 13-under win prizes, trophies and receive a “goodie” bag. Adults win cash prizes and trophies. Prize categories include bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie and trout. T-shirts will be given to all preregistered participants. Bring bait and tackle. In partnership with the Friends of Eastern Neck, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and River Rock Outdoor Store, Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge invites kids and their families to the annual Youth Fishing Day. Youths 15 and under may participate in this FREE event. Parent or adult guardian must accompany all participants. There is no alternate rain date for this event. Food, drinks, prizes and bait will be provided. Kids are encouraged to bring their own rod and reel but a limited number of rods and reels will also be available for kids to use during the event. The derby will be held at the Headquarters Pond, located on the road to the Bayview Butterfly Trail on Eastern Neck NWR.
