Fish Guilds

B.A.S.S. is an acronym for “Bass Anglers’ Sportsman Society.” With a membership of over 500,000, B.A.S.S. is one of the largest angling groups in the United States and is dedicated to the promotion and conservation of the sport fishery involving the fish of its namesake, bass (generally largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted.)

As much as I love bass fishing, I try to appreciate all species of fish that I catch. If the bass aren’t biting, that “Plan B” fish can be just as much fun.

So, it got me thinking about potential acronyms for other groups who may focus on one particular species of fish…

Taking a cue from B.A.S.S. and having the first letter always stand for the fish itself, here are a few examples:

W.A.L.L.E.Y.E.
Walleye Anglers Legendary League of Enthusiastic Youth Encouragers

D.R.U.M.
Drum Reeling Up Machines

C.H.U.B.
Chub Hunters United Brotherhood

G.A.R.
Gar Appreciation Ring

P.I.K.E.
Pike International Knighthood of Enthusiasts

S.H.A.D.
Shad Honorary Association of Diehards

What Society do you belong to? I’d love to hear some others.
