Generally speaking, the best knot to tie braid to mono leader is considered to be the Double Uni Knot. While the Double Uni Knot is one of the simplest line-to-line connections that can be used with two lines of relatively similar diameter, there are a few other knots that you may want to try in certain situations.
For light tackle trips, many anglers feel that the best knot for mono to braid is the Bristol Knot. The Bristol Knot is easy to tie, will pass through rod guides smoothly, and is often considered to be a better choice over the Double Uni when fishing with light line or tippet.
If so, you may want to use the FG Knot. This knot has been gaining popularity over the past few years with good reason. The FG Knot is one of the strongest fishing knots to use when jigging or popping with heavy braid and drag.
If this is the case, you may want to learn how to tie the Alberto Knot. This knot is often cited as the best knot for mono to braid when joining lines of different diameters.
When you want to tie a low profile knot that has plenty of strength, but that also slides easily through your rod guides, consider using the Slim Beauty Knot for tying braid to mono leader. This is an excellent knot to use when joining lines of two different materials and diameters.
While there are many different knots you can learn how to tie, the best knot to tie braid to mono leader will also depend on how quickly and confidently you can tie it. To prepare for your next fishing trip, buy your fishing license online and practice tying a few new braid to mono knots.
