Family fishing time on our nation’s National Forests & Grasslands is a tradition, and one of the ways to celebrate the arrival of summer for millions of Americans. It’s quality time with family, it’s fun and it’s way to connect to Nature.
Did you know that the USDA Forest Service has more than just Smoky the Bear, it has 193 million acres, 220,000 miles of fishable rivers and streams, and more than 10 million acres of lakes to enjoy and explore. From world class fishing for salmon, steelhead, and trout, to secluded bass and pike lakes, to easily accessible ponds for panfish and perch, to big rivers for catfish and sturgeon, the USDA Forest Service has recreational fishing opportunities for everyone. USFS Fisheries Program
For those looking to catch their first fish there are more than 150 Kids Fishing Events sponsored by the USDA Forest Service and our partners across our Eastern and Southern regions alone.
Contact your local National Forest & Grassland to find out about their next Kids Fishing Event.
Learn more about how we are getting families fishing and about the many fish habitat conservation projects that the Forest Service and partners do to support recreational fishing.
