The changing of seasons is a welcome time, shifting our minds into pre-holiday mode and arousing the desire for those time-honored fall traditions like warm fires, pumpkin pie, and hay rides. Nature’s beauty and fun festivities abound, giving every family a way to celebrate the season. Check out this list of outdoor fall activities for some inspiration.
1. Take a fall foliage boat tour
Just because summer has passed doesn’t mean you shouldn’t break out the boat for some serious leaf-peeping. Take in the warm, vibrant fall colors from the water’s stage.
2. Enjoy a hike
The simplest of outdoor fall activities may be just what you and your family need. Head to the mountains or a nearby park for a scenic walk outside. Fresh air, time outdoors and loved ones; the perfect ingredients for a magical day.
3. Visit a state or national park
The crowds are winding down now that school is back in session. Take a day to explore a state or national park near you. Make a road trip of it and stop along the way at roadside fall festivities.
4. Go fishing
One of my favorite outdoor activities. Fall can be an incredible time for fishing as it’s also a transition season for many fish species. Get your fishing license and hit the water.
5. Jump in a leaf pile
All that raking is well-worth it when you get to plunge into a heaping pile of red, yellow, and orange.
6. Go on a scavenger hunt
Create a fall-themed scavenger list and venture out with the kids to find the items. Outdoor fall activities that activate your mind can be an educational and fun experience.
7. Pick your pumpkins
Fall isn’t officially kicked off until you’ve scoured the patch for your perfect pumpkins. This festive occasion provides the perfect fall family photo opp to frame on the mantle.
8. Go camping
Venture to your favorite campground or set up camp in the backyard, under the stars. Roast s’mores over a campfire, tell ghost stories, and enjoy the great outdoors.
There is no shortage of fun outdoor activities to enjoy this fall! With all the fun things to do outside, rally your family together and get out there!
