Let's Go Fishing, Fayette!
The Lower Mississippi River Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office is coordinating a kids fishing event to be held at the community pond in Fayette, MS. Fayette is a rural town in southwest Mississippi with a population of ~ 1,500. The kid's fishing event will include: 1) kid's fishing rodeo (Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery will stock the pond with 800 lbs of catfish for the fishing rodeo) a section around the pond will be roped off for kids with special needs, 2) interactive station to teach kids how to cast and help the kids to identify native fish in the area as well as make the kids and their families aware of invasive fish (such as Asian Carp), and 3) exotic animal skins exhibit (Lower Mississippi River Refuge Complex will display exotic skins and skulls). Additional partners for this event include Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, Phi Beta Sigma, Lower Mississippi River Conservation Committee, Jefferson County Board of Supervisors and many others.
