If you’re wondering when is International Women’s Day? Or what is International Women’s Day all about? International Women’s Day 2022 takes place on Tuesday, March 8th, and it’s a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality. You can help raise awareness about the importance of equality on March 8th in a few specific ways.
1. Plan a Women’s Outdoor Adventure
Consider planning a women’s outdoor adventure or retreat with a few women you respect or admire. During your time together, ask them about their career, experiences overcoming stereotypes, leadership roles, or ways they make self-care a priority. Consider a few questions to help start the conversation: What unique challenges have you faced in your career? How have you overcome discrimination? Which mentors or role models have positively impacted you in your career, and what’s one lesson that they taught you? How have you managed to balance your career and personal life?
2. Uplift the Women in Your Life
Words of encouragement go a long way in lifting people up and inspiring them to keep going. Whether it’s a colleague, friend, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, or girlfriend – speak words of encouragement by making a phone call or by sending a text an important woman in your life to show solidarity. Let them know how much you respect and appreciate them.
3. Show Your Support on Social
Another impactful way to celebrate International Women’s Day this year is to show your commitment to challenging inequality by taking part in the “Break the Bias” social media campaign. Take a photo of yourself crossing your hands in an X and share it on your preferred social media platforms using #BreakTheBias and mentioning IWD (International Women’s Day).
4. Support Women-Owned Businesses
Supporting local businesses that are owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women not only shows women’s solidarity, but it also helps contribute to equal economic empowerment, representative products and services, and a more prosperous economy.
Now that you have a few specific ways to break the bias on International Women’s Day, help spread the word and encourage others to do the same.
