Whether you are looking for easy walleye recipes that require little more than simple breading, gourmet walleye recipes or options like fish tacos where you can fry or bake the fish, walleye is a hearty meat that can be used all in many meal preparations.

The only thing that makes eating walleye better is catching it yourself by getting a valid fishing license and hitting one of the many waterways in the United States to fish for them, like the Great Lakes where walleye thrive.

Grilled Walleye Fish Tacos

One way to enjoy a creative walleye recipe is with fish tacos. The firm white meat of walleye is ideal to use with just the right seasoning. While this recipe calls for grilling the walleye you can also bread the filets and fry the fish to use. Round out this walleye recipe with your preferences of toppings from salsa to guacamole or a favorite fish sauce.

Grilled Walleye Tacos

• 3 walleye filets

• 3 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil

• 2 tbsp fresh lime juice

• 1 tbsp chili seasoning

• 1 tsp garlic salt

• 1/8 tsp cracked black pepper

• Tortillas and toppings of choice

Mix the Extra virgin olive oil with fresh lime juice, chili seasoning, garlic salt, and cracked black pepper. Pat the walleye filets dry on both sides and brush generously with the mixture.

Preheat grill to medium/high and cook for 6-7 minutes per side. You can also cook the walleye in a preheated 400-degree oven for 15 minutes.

Taco Toppings: Diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, diced avocado, chopped cilantro, cheese and anything else you prefer for flavor.

Serve on scorched flour tortillas. Squeeze a dash of lime juice over the tacos. Sauces are optional.

Pan Fried Walleye

Traditional walleye recipes do not come any easier than basic pan-fried walleye. The flavor of the meat is delicious, so a light breading for a crispy finish makes it is easy to have alone or with sides like corn on the cob, seasonal vegetables or topped on a salad.

Pan Fried Walleye

• 6 walleye filets

• 2 eggs

• ¾ cups flour

• 1 cup Italian style breadcrumbs

• ½ teaspoon salt

• ¼ teaspoon onion powder

• ½ teaspoon paprika

• 4 Tablespoons of oil

Lightly the beat eggs in a dish. In a separate dish combine the flour, breadcrumbs, and seasonings (salt, onion powder and paprika).

Dip fresh walleye filets in the egg and then in flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.

Add oil to the frying pan and heat over medium heat. When the pan is hot, add 3-4 filets into the oil. Cook 3 minutes per side until you see a nice browning effect.

Remove the fish from the pan and place on a lined baking sheet in the oven. Place the cooked fish in the oven heated to 250° while you fry the remaining fish.

Clean out the pan then add additional oil. Repeat process with remaining filets.

Serve the walleye pieces on a platter for family-style dining with an assortment of side dishes like green beans and coleslaw.

Air Fryer Walleye

For a quick and easy walleye recipe that is a healthier option, pull out the air fryer. This walleye recipe requires no breading, unless you want it, so you can enjoy this delicious white meat fish in its tastiest form using it in any dish combination you prefer. One option is to add rice and beans, salsa or vegetables to round out a full meal.

Air Fryer Walleye

• 2 walleye filets

• Lemon

• Green onions

• Salt and pepper

• Garlic powder

• Olive oil spray

• 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (for breading option)

• 1 egg (for breading option)

Rinse walleye filets and pat dry. Crack the egg in a bowl and whisk. Add salt and pepper and a pinch of garlic powder.

In a separate bowl add the breadcrumbs. Dip fish in egg, shake and then dip both sides though the breadcrumbs.

Spray the air fryer basket with oil spray. Add breaded fish into the basket and cook for 12 minutes at 380 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not flip the fish while cooking.

Squeeze lemon juice over the fish for additional flavor. Serve the walleye with lemon wedges and tartar sauce or make it the centerpiece of a larger dish with an array of adds like rice, vegetables or a favorite fish sauce.
