There are many reasons to plan a June lake fishing trip. Check out the reasons why the start of the summer season is a great time to plan a trip with the family

Ahhh, June lake fishing… it's the perfect time of year to wet a line in your favorite local lake. The weather isn't too hot, the fish are starting to settle into more predictable patterns, and you can take the kids along on some of the best fishing days in June because school is out for the summer.

Doesn't a day of June lake fishing always leave you smiling? Check out a list of the reasons why it makes us want to grin from ear-to-ear.

•    It's the ideal time and place to use your favorite topwater lures. June is one of the best months to "walk the dog" and experience the explosive bite of a bass on the surface. If you live in the northern half of the U.S., largemouth bass are one of the best fish to catch on freshwater lakes during the month of June.

•    Most states offer a license free fishing day during the month of June. You can visit your favorite local lake or a new lake, and introduce someone new to the sport of fishing during National Fishing and Boating Week. Just check a list of June license free fishing days by state.

•    There are family friendly fishing events that are held during the month of June at lakes and state parks across the country. You can find a list of events in the TakeMeFishing.org State Info section. Learning new fishing techniques can help you catch more fish, and catching more fish can certainly make you smile.

•    More anglers will be out on the water this month, which means there will be plenty of June lake fishing reports to read. When you have more information to help you plan your June fishing trips, the less you have to rely on trial and error. Yep, that's another reason to smile!

•    If you check a solunar calendar and weather forecast, you can plan your lake fishing trips based on the time periods that are predicted to be the best fishing days in June. You'll find that there are quite a few!

What other reasons do you have for smiling after a June lake fishing trip? We want to know, so comment on this post with your answers. Then, go ahead and buy your fishing license online, check the June fish regulations, and head to a lake near you!
