Five indoor activities for kids to make rainy days less gloomy. Here’s how to keep kids busy at home, from fishing games for kids to getting creative in the kitchen.

Being on the water is the best but sometimes it’s too wet or too hot to spend time outdoors. When stuck inside, it’s helpful to have a few indoor activities for kids ready to go. Not only will you need to figure out how to keep kids busy while indoors but it’s also helpful to know that there are free and fun things for kids to do at home.

  • Angler Academy. Inclement weather will never again spoil your kid’s fishing fun! Head over to Take Me Fishing’s Angler Academy for a host of free indoor activities for kids, including fish art & craft projects, coloring sheets, instructions for transforming the bathtub into a well-stocked fishing hole, and more fishing games for kids.
  • Vision Board. Kids are famous for having fantastical dreams about what they will do in the future. One of the fun things for kids to do at home is to make a vision board with cut and pasted photos from magazines to display all the things they want to do and accomplish this year, as well as into the future — from reading X number of comic books, reaching a high level in their favorite video game, and maybe even learning to fish!
  • Invent a board game. Playing board games bought at the store is fun but inventing your own board game is one of the best indoor activities for kids. All you need is your kid’s imagination to invent rules, some construction paper, and colorful markers.
  • Bake. If you’re fishing for some tasty kids creative activities at home, baking is a scrumptious idea! Your entire home smell delicious and if you really want to know how to keep kids busy at home, let them add food coloring to simple buttercream icing to decorate the muffins, brownies and cookies once cooled.
  • Drama club. They say all the world’s a stage, so get your phone ready as your kids act out dramatic scenes from their favorite books. They will be reading, using their imagination, and getting up off the couch, making this one of the most creative and totally free indoor activities for kids.

Now you have some new indoor activities for kids ready for when you’re stuck inside. Try them out the next time the weather cancels your plans to go fishing or boating with your kids.
