Pre-Owned Boat for Sale

I bought a pre-owned boat this summer and we don’t plan on parting with it anytime soon. However with cooler temperatures and the boat season winding down in places, some boats may start appearing in the newspaper classifieds.

Here are a few considerations in case you may be in the market for a pre-owned boat.

  • Are you ready? Do you have a place to store it? Is there room in the garage?

  • Is the price right? Bring the checkbook, but don’t rush into anything.

  • What comes with it? The seller of my boat threw in a depth finder, battery, and electric trolling motor.

  • Has the boat been well cared for? Is it clean?

  • When was the last time the motor was run or tuned up?

  • How do the trailer tires look? Any cracks? Do you have the right size hitch?

  • Listen to the seller. While going over the boat history and features, my seller shared that the bearings on the boat trailer were recently repacked. Not something I would have remembered to ask, and another sign that it was well cared for.

  • Allow time for transfer of title(s) and registration from former owner. You might have to wait until next weekend to take the maiden voyage.

  • Does it fit your needs? How versatile is it? Is there room for the whole family?

  • How about my old adversary, the trailer lights?

We had been boat shopping for a couple of years so we were fairly well prepared when a friend notified us that this little boat was for sale. The mower doesn’t need to be kept in the garage anyway.
